NCAA Basketball Prediction: Kansas Jayhawks vs Baylor Bears
Wednesday, February 08, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
Duke at North Carolina isn't the only Top 10 showdown on Wednesday. Before that marquee game, there's a gigantic matchup in the Big 12 featuring No. 10 Kansas Jayhawks and No. 6 Baylor Bears.
These teams are both a half-game back of No. 4 Missouri for the conference lead, so the winner moves into a tie for first with seven games left.
The first matchup didn't live up to the hype, with the Jayhawks throttling the Bears 92-74 in Lawrence. But this one figures to be more competitive; Baylor has lost only once at home. Kansas is coming off a heartbreaking loss at Missouri.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Bears listed as 2-point favorites versus the Jayhawks.
Kansas Jayhawks (18-5): Whatever happened at the end of the loss to Missouri needs to be fixed. The Jayhawks appeared to be in control until the final minutes, when they surrendered 11 straight points to lose 74-71. Kansas, in fact, has dropped two straight games away from home — the other was at Iowa State — since opening Big 12 play at 7-0. Kansas coach Bill Self hasn't lost back-to-back games since the 2005-06 season and said earlier this week, "Our guys will bounce back. If our guys don't play well or if we don't win, it won't be because of what happened Saturday (at Missouri)."
Baylor Bears (21-2): Kansas is used to competing for conference titles, but this is uncharted territory for the Bears. At 8-2, this is their best start to a conference slate through 10 games since going 10-0 in 1947-48. In addition, Baylor's 21-2 start overall matches the best in program history, set in 1945-46. Perry Jones III struggled to contain Thomas Robinson in the first matchup, but the sophomore is really starting to heat up lately, posting 74 points and 42 rebounds — good for three double-doubles — over the past four games.
1. Baylor’s senior class ( Quincy Acy, Fred Ellis and Anthony Jones ) has 91 career wins and needs one more to break the all-time school record.
2. Robinson has 16 double-doubles this season for Kansas, more than twice as many as any other Big 12 player.
3. Since the Big 12 was formed in 1996, the Jayhawks are 16-2 all-time against Baylor.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Bears 74, Jayhawks 71.
